The J. S. Everly land survey in Denton County [A-414] was originally
settled in 1860 by the Jackson Carroll Jones family who built
a two-story log house at site 41DN250. J. C. Jones was a brother
of John Jones who had settled in early 1854 on adjoining land
to the south [John Jones Survey A-669] at site 41DN224. Syntha
[also spelled Zintha and Cyntha] Elmena Jones, a daughter of John
Jones, married Jacob Sampson Everly about 1869 and they moved
into the house at 41DN250 on or about 7 Jan 1871. The house and
land survey had been vacated by the J. C. Jones family who had
moved on westward to Montague County. Syntha Jones was born 18
Dec 1849 in the Choctaw Nation [presently Oklahoma] on the road
to Texas with her immigrating family [see genealogies and population
census records for John Jones and Everly families in Appendices
D and E]. Because of this, her family nicknamed her "Squaw."
She was called "Aunt Col" by the Roy Jones family (T.
Roy Jones, personal communication).

the reason for the ensuing affidavit]
