18. Civic Center Water Gardens

 

In the mid-1960s, while working on the master plan for the Denton Civic Center complex, Ford did some concept drawings of an enhanced creek system through the Civic Center Park.

This plan was for a series of low check-dams through the park that would create a small pools of water and water falls. This is reminiscent of the dams found on many hill-country rivers. In times of flooding the overflowing water would pour over the small dams and move on down stream. In drouth, a pumps and system of pipes would carry water from the lowest pool back upstream to the highest.
